About The Fire This Time

The Fire This Time was founded by a group of eight students in 2000 in response to racially motivated attacks in the form of death threats directed at certain black students. Their vision was to give students of color an arena to voice their opinions and concerns in a way that had not been done before on Georgetown’s campus. For the next decade, the paper had several re-incarnations fueled at one point by the 2009 April Fool’s Edition of the Hoya which centered on negative racial stereotypes and crude jokes. We recognize that the conversation about issues of race on this campus is very limited to certain spheres of the student population and we believe that this publication would serve to  open up the Georgetown community and sustain true dialogue and awareness concerning our different backgrounds and experiences.
